Experimental Studies on the Skin Mast Cells of Mice

Abstract
The author studied the quantitative distribution of mast cells in the skin of mice and changes of their cytoplasmic granules after the administration of single dose of reserpine 5 mg/kg into the abdominal cavity of mice and obtained the following conclusions.
1. The administration of reserpine brought about marked decrease of the mast cell in number and noticeable change especially in the well developed mast cells.
2. In 96 hours after the administration decrease of the cells showed the lowest value and then gradual resumption ensued.
3. it is assumed that serotonin may play a direct role in the formation of cytoplasmic granules of mast cells.
4. By administration of reserpine any degranulation of the cells could scarcely be observed but resolution of the granules and chromatin.
